The Move Tool allows you to select objects. Once selected, the Move Tool allows you to move, rotate, and resize the selected object.
Options
The following settings can be adjusted from the context toolbar:
Move Options:
Hide Selection—when the option is selected, the object's selection box is temporarily hidden when transforming the object. When the option is unselected, the object's selection box remains visible during transformation. The chosen behavior persists across all objects unless it is manually switched.
Enable Transform Origin—displays a movable transform origin about which the selection box can be rotated.
Alignment Handles—when selected, displays alignment handles at the center and edges of the selected object. You can drag the handles to position the center or edges of the selected object in line with this guide.
Transform Separately—when selected, where multiple objects are selected, they can be be resized, rotated and sheared independently of each other instead of transforming the bounding box.
Lock Children—when deselected, a child object will proportionally transform as its parent is transformed. When selected, any child object(s) will not be affected by a transformed parent. The latter is great for maintaining the size, position and aspect ratio of a clipped picture when resizing its parent. Use a hardware keyboard's (if available) to temporarily override the current Lock Children state while the key remains pressed.
Cycle Selection Box—after reshaping, rotating, or shearing the object, this option toggles the selection box between a Base box (honors the transform), Regular bounds (ignores transform) or Planar bounds (fitting to an isometric grid if active).
Set Selection Box—when selected, the current selection box is made permanent, i.e. reselecting the object will maintain whatever the selection box was set.
Auto-select—when enabled, automatic selection is made on both the page and the Layers panel; when disabled, selection is made from the Layers panel only. When enabled, several auto-select options are available from an adjacent menu.
Default—objects and groups can be selected on the page or Layers panel.
Objects—only objects can be selected on the page, while grouped objects will be selected as if ungrouped; both objects and groups can be selected from the Layers panel.
Groups—only groups can be selected on the page; both objects and groups can be selected from the Layers panel.
Under—when enabled, tapping on an area where two or more objects overlap initially selects the frontmost object, and with each subsequent double-tap the next overlapped object behind the selected object is selected.
Arrange:
Move to Back—repositions the selected object(s) at the bottom of the layer. Alternatively, repositions the selected layer(s) at the bottom of the Layers panel.
Move Back One—moves the selected object(s) down one position in the layer. Alternatively, moves the selected layer(s) down one position in the Layers panel.
Move Forward One—moves the selected object(s) up one position in the layer. Alternatively, moves the selected layer(s) up one position in the Layers panel.
Move to Front—repositions the selected object(s) at the top of the layer. Alternatively, repositions the selected layer(s) at the top of the Layers panel.
Transform:
Flip Horizontal—flips the selected object(s) left to right.
Flip Vertical—flips the selected object(s) top to bottom.
Rotate Anticlockwise—rotates the selected object(s) to the left by one 90° increment.
Rotate Clockwise—rotates the selected object(s) to the right by one 90° increment.
Alignment:
Align Left—aligns objects to the left edge of the selection bounds; single objects align to the left page edge.
Align Center—aligns objects to the horizontal center of the selection bounds; single objects align to the horizontal page center.
Align Right—aligns objects to the right edge of the selection bounds; single objects align to the right page edge.
Space Horizontally—evenly spaces the selected objects from each other horizontally, within the selection bounds.
Align Top—aligns objects to the top edge of the selection bounds; single objects align to the top page edge.
Align Middle—aligns objects to the vertical center of the selection bounds; single objects align to the vertical page center.
Align Bottom—aligns objects to the bottom edge of the selection bounds; single objects align to the bottom page edge.
Space Vertically—evenly spaces the selected objects from each other vertically, within the selection bounds.
Geometry:
Add—creates a new object from the sum of the selected objects.
Subtract—removes sections from the lowest object based on the overlap with objects higher up in the selection. All other selected objects are discarded.
Intersect—creates a new object from the overlapping sections of selected objects.
Xor—merges selected objects into a composite object with transparent area where filled regions overlap.
Divide—splits object areas into separate objects; the object from the intersecting area retains the color of the upper object.
Merge Curves—consolidates selected curves into a single polycurve layer.
Separate Curves—separates a polycurve into separate curve layers.
