Layer FX panel

Options

The following settings are available in the panel:

Tap the pin icon in the top right of the panel to hide the panel automatically when you are no longer focusing on it.
Scale with Object—when enabled, the effect scales in proportion to the object if the object is resized. If this option is disabled, the effect's scale remains unchanged when the object is resized.
Fill Opacity—sets the opacity of the object without affecting the applied effect(s).
Move up / Move down— reorders selected instances of a multi-instance layer effect (outline, shadow or overlay effects only).
Duplicate effect—creates another instance of a multi-instance layer effect (outline, shadow or overlay effects only).
Remove effect—deletes any instance of a multi-instance layer effect.
Bevel/Emboss—adds various combinations of highlights and shadows.
Outline—adds an outline to the object.
3D—adds lighting to give a 3D appearance.
Inner Shadow—adds a shadow inside the object's edges.
Inner Glow—adds a colour glow that emanates from inside the object's edges.
Colour Overlay—applies a solid colour to an object.
Gradient Overlay—applies a linear gradient to an object.
Outer Glow—adds a colour glow that emanates from outside the object's edges.
Outer Shadow—adds a shadow behind the object.
Gaussian Blur—blurs the object.

About styles

The Layer FX panel also lets you apply predesigned styles to layer content. Styles can comprise an individual effect with predefined settings or a combinations of effects that complement each other. The Styles section lets you apply these with one tap.

You can also save any style to the Layer FX panel for future use. For vector shapes and text, the stroke, opacity and other vector properties can be stored.

The following settings are available in the panel:

Categories. Use the navigation buttons to jump between style categories; thumbnails update for the displayed category.
Style thumbnails for the current category.

Importing and exporting styles

Styles can be exported to and imported from external files (add-ons) via the Panel Preferences menu. For more information on add-ons, see the About add-ons topic.

Options

The following options are available from the Panel Preferences menu, which can be accessed from the Styles section:

Add Style from Selection—if your layer content is selected, select this option to save the object style to the current Styles category.
Add Category—creates a new style category that you can save your custom styles into.
Rename Category—renames the currently active custom category.
Duplicate Category—makes an unlinked copy of the current category, typically for app-specific customisation.
Link Category—allows you to link category content so you can share it across Affinity apps on the local device.
Delete Category—deletes the currently active custom category.
Sort Categories By Date Added / Sort Categories By Name—instead of name order you can sort in date order; tap again to sort by name.
Import Styles—if styles have been previously exported to a file you can import them using this option.
Export Styles—exports the current category, and its styles, to a file.
