Importing PDF documents

PDF documents can be imported and edited depending on how the PDF was originally exported. Imported PDF documents become Affinity documents.

The importing of PDF documents is a one-way process. You cannot overwrite the original file once it has been imported, instead saving it as an Affinity document. However, you can edit the PDF content if page objects remain editable from the original export; you can then export the file as another PDF.

If the PDF document has stored Document Properties (metadata) such as Title, Author, Subject and Keywords (tags) these will be retained on import. This information is displayed in the Fields panel (Document Information section).

OpenTo import Adobe PDF documents:
  1. From the Home screen, tap Open.
  2. On the pop-up menu, select Import Document to access your local or cloud storage.
  3. Navigate to and tap the file you want to open.
  4. From the PDF Options dialog, you can choose:
    • All pages or selected pages—The page thumbnail window lets you check/uncheck which pages you want to import; all pages are imported by default.
    • DPI—sets the resolution for the document.
    • Color Space—sets the document color space (e.g., RGB or CMYK) that PDF contents will use. The Estimate option senses the PDF file's color space and uses that.
    • Text Handling—if text is to remain more editable (at the expense of accurate design reproduction), select Prefer Editability, otherwise select Prefer Fidelity.
    • Text Grouping—select Group into Frames for text lines to be treated as a single text frame-this aids text flow. Otherwise, the Preserve Layout option will will retain the original text placement.
    • Replace missing fonts—when enabled, missing fonts are substituted with the suggested replacement font family/style or a font family/style of your choosing; you can override these suggested substitutions using the Replacement Family and Replacement Style settings.
