Aligning

Layer content can be aligned on the page accurately using the Alignment commands.

Settings (or Preferences)

Settings can be adjusted from the Alignment pop-up panel on the Toolbar:

Alignment To align layer content:
  1. Select your layer contents.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • On the Toolbar, click Alignment, set the Align To option, then an Align Horizontally or Align Vertically option from the pop-up panel. Click Apply.
    • From the Alignment menu, select an alignment option.

The following settings can also be used from the context toolbar, either in relation to selection bounds or to a key layer, designated by clicking on an layer to align to with the pressed (the key layer is identified with a strong blue outline):

Alignment handles

When enabled, alignment handles appear as you drag content, allowing you to place it precisely by lining it up in accordance with other content in your document. Alignment handles are especially useful for aligning the edges or centres of multiple selections to other page content or guides.

Show Alignment Handles To add alignment handles to a selection:
  1. With content selected, click on the Move Tool.
  2. From the context toolbar, select Show Alignment Handles. When selected, alignment handles are displayed at the centre and edges of the selection. Hovering over these handles displays a floating guideline across the page. You can drag the handles to position the centre or edges of the selection in line with this handle.
  3. Alignment handles can be used to align the selection to a given position on the spread. This position can be snapped for accuracy.
