Resizing document and canvas

In Affinity Designer you can resize your document or canvas. The former lets you scale on-page objects in proportion with the new document size, while the latter lets you grow or shrink just the canvas with a choice of how to anchor the canvas on resize (objects will never resize).

Document resizing

Changing the document size will increase/decrease object dimensions in relation to a change in document Width and/or Height. In doing so you have a choice of resampling methods to control the quality of scaled objects.

Canvas resizing

For canvas resizing, the canvas is independent of the page and can be resized in relation to a configurable anchor point (e.g., Middle Center). As objects don't scale, resampling is not required. This is useful for expanded your working area if you're envisaging a bigger design than initially thought.

To change the document size:
  1. From the Document menu, select Resize.
  2. On the context toolbar, select the Resize option to be Document.
  3. (Optional) Select a different measurement unit from the Units selector.
  4. Width Height Adjust your document dimensions using the Width or Height slider (adjusting either will maintain the document's original aspect ratio). To resize the width and height independently, disable the lock icon (to unlock) on the context toolbar before using the sliders.
  5. DPI (Optional) Change the DPI to control the number of pixels (dots) per inch when your document is printed. Set higher values (e.g., 300dpi) for professional printing.
  6. Choose a resampling method from the pop-up menu.
  7. Tap the check to resize.
To change the canvas size:
  1. Repeat as for Document Size but choose the Resize option to be 'Canvas' instead.
  2. Select an Anchor point which will resize the canvas 'under' the document from that anchor point.
