Resource Manager panel

From the panel, you can view the placed resources in your document, the placement status and additional image details such as original/placed dimensions, original DPI, colour space/profile, placement type (linked, embedded or remote), file type and the page that each resource can be found on. If the same resource is used multiple times within the document, all instances will be grouped together in the list.

About placement types

The key difference between linked files and embedded files is the location of the stored data and if data is updated after being linked or embedded.

Embedded files are stored in the document and can't be subsequently updated if the source file changes, i.e. there is no link to the source file.

Linked files are not stored in the document and can therefore be updated (via Resource Manager panel) in the document from the source file if the source file changes.

Images placed (via the Place Tool or drag and drop) will adopt the document's image placement policy set at document setup.

Images dragged and dropped from a web browser have a placement value of Embedded by default, regardless of a document's image placement policy.

Tap the pin icon in the top right of the panel to hide the panel automatically when you are no longer focusing on it.

Options

The following settings are available in the panel:

Sort—tap to sort the list by name, status, page number, placement type or Size (dimensions).
Filter By—select one or more options on which to filter the listed resources:
- Current Spread—when selected, only resources from the current (active) spread are listed. When deselected, matching resources from all spreads are listed.
- Status—when OK, Error or Modified is selected, only resources with a related status are listed. To show resources of all statuses, tap the selected option to deselect it.
- Placement—when Embedded or Linked is selected, only resources of that placement status are listed. To show resources of both placement types, tap the selected option to deselect it.
- Type—when Affinity, PDF or Image is selected, only resources of that type are listed. To show resources of all types, tap the selected option to deselect it.
Expand/Collapse—tap to expand/contract the resource when multiple instances of the resource are placed; the expanded list reveals each instance.
Image/document thumbnail—a thumbnail representation of the resource for visual identification.
Image/document filename—the filename of the placed image.
Status—status icons for the resource. Expand Details for the full status message.
- OK—the resource is available, up to date and placed in your document.
- Missing—the linked resource has either been moved from its original location, renamed or deleted. Long press the resource and choose Locate to navigate to the file if moved or renamed.
- Modified—the linked file has been modified externally. Long press the resource and choose Update to get the latest version.
- Permission Denied/Access Denied—the linked resource cannot be displayed as there is insufficient folder permissions to access it.
Details—tap to reveal more resource details.

The following options are available via long press on a resource (depending on its status) or via the panel's Preferences menu:

Locate¹—jumps to the page on which the instance of the resource is placed in your document.
Show File in Files—for a linked resource, shows the folder that contains the corresponding file in the Files app. (Panel Preferences only.)
Update—allows you to update out-of-date linked resources.
Replace—allows you to relocate or replace the selected resource file if missing. Select a replacement file using the pop-up dialog.
Make Linked / Embed—allows you to change an embedded resource into a linked resource or vice versa. When making a resource linked, specify a save location using the pop-up dialog.
